Mission objectives for week four
Math
Last week we learned how to multiply numbers by 1 and zero using arrays. This week we will be introducing more concepts of multiplication with counting by 2, 5, and 10.
At home, students can apply these ideas by counting money or other objects by grouping them into sets and then counting them.
Writing
We will keep learning about how to recognize and form good ideas that are clear and simple, grab our attention with some mystery, and surprise us. Additionally, we will learn to support our ideas with vivid details that make them memorable.
Students can practice forming and supporting good ideas through telling stories and noticing what makes them interesting.
Science
We are continuing our work with classification, learning how we categorize information so that it’s easier to organize and retrieve.
Whenever students notice how we organize things in life, they will start to notice distinctions and differences they hadn’t seen before. Finding qualities that objects share, which allows us to categorize them, can often be a difficult abstract exercise that helps our thinking in many ways.
Reading
We are continuing with poetry this week, learning how to use imagery, patterns, and rhythm.
We will also be reading about how to deal with bullying, when people make others feel like they don’t belong because they don’t look or act like them.
Social Studies
We are still learning how to use maps, identify bodies of water and landforms, and find landmarks.
Bible
We have started the creation story and plan on continuing on with Genesis, learning from the beginning of the Bible.
